Daylight savings has given everyone an extra hour on Sunday. Why not spend it basking in the majesty of Beethoven?
Hear the North Carolina Master Chorale perform Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at 3pm Sunday afternoon in Meymandi Concert Hall. The sound of the over 250 performers—chorus, symphony orchestra and soloists—will fill the hall with Beethoven’s exceptional “Solemn Mass.”
NCMC Music Director Al Sturgis says of the piece, “What makes this piece such an amazing experience for both the listener and the performer is the sheer visceral power of Beethoven’s musical ideas, and the utter conviction with which he states them.”
Guest soloists for this concert are Meghan Dewald, Soprano; Cristy Lynn Brown, Mezzo-soprano; Wade Henderson, Tenor; and Donnie Ray Albert, Bass.
Henderson, a Cary resident, is well-known to local audiences from past appearances with the Master Chorale, the North Carolina Opera, Capital Opera, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, and more. “It’s a challenging part,” says Henderson of the tenor solo. “I always enjoy singing with Al Sturgis the NC Master Chorale. Add in the finest instrumentalists in the area and a chance to perform in the outstanding Meymandi Concert Hall, and, well, you just can’t pass that up!”
Join Wade and the Master Chorale as we kick off our 70th season of amazing choral performances in the Triangle.
